Psychologist, Clinical Supervisor

Western Student Experience (WSE) consists of three pillars including Leadership and Learning; Sports and Recreation; and Wellness and Wellbeing. Western Student Experience, is developing partnerships to provide cutting-edge, empirically supported psychological treatment and assessment that will be positioned to improve the availability of psychological services to students while supporting the training clinical psychology graduate students. Equally important these collaborations will be a valuable resource for scientists at the University seeking research participants for studies. Taken together the proposed clinical practicum/residency rotations will support Western Student Experience's (WSE) mission of creating a “thriving campus” that leverages an equitable learning environment in which all students can achieve their full potential.
Reporting to the Director, Wellness and Wellbeing, the Psychologist, Clinical Supervisor’s responsibility is two-fold. First, the incumbent will provide oversight of the individual supervision to practicum/residency students, including meeting with their assigned supervisee a minimum of one hour per week and providing clinical supervision regarding the student’s clinical work at their practicum site. This position is a collaboration between Student Experience and the Psychology Department at Western.
Second, the incumbent draws upon clinical research, extensive training, experience, and well-developed consultative networks to formulate, collaborate, implement and evaluate evidence-based individualized treatment plans for students. These treatment plans are focused towards outcomes that prevent and relieve psychological distress and dysfunction, which interfere with a student’s safety, health, academic functioning and engagement within the university context, utilizing a variety of evidence-based psychological methods and treatments. This work contributes to the planning and coordination of Western’s mental health services, as well as the research and development mandate. The Psychologist, Clinical Supervisor also consults with administration, faculty, and staff towards building broader community and personal capacity in responding to mental health needs, and provides direct clinical training as part of the academic curriculum.
- Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counselling Psychology
- Current membership in good standing as a Clinical Psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario or eligible for registration in Ontario
- Current professional liability insurance
- 5 years of clinical experience in assessment and treatment of emotional, cognitive, and behavioural problems including performing psychometric assessments, interpreting results and preparing psychological evaluations
- 5 years of experience and proven competency working with adolescents and young adults
- Experience supervising doctoral-level students, interns and other clinical trainees in a clinical setting
- In-depth experience with psychological testing and report writing across diverse populations
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated familiarity of anti-racism and diversity issues, with a clear understanding of the importance of creating an inclusive environment in a post-secondary environment
- Familiarity with relevant legislation, trends and best practices related to diversity, equity, human rights and anti-oppression theory in the provision of clinical services
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in one or more of these therapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Psychoeducation and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy
- Proven expertise in psychological assessment and diagnostic skills
- Proven expertise in group and individual interventional skills and in treatment of individual problems including concurrent disorders
- Capacity to provide supervision and training to psychology students in placement
- Ability to be self-directed and autonomous with advanced decision making, problem identification and problem solving skills
- Strong organization and time management skills with an ability to adapt effectively and efficiently in a rapidly changing therapeutic and organizational environment
- Ability to work as part of a clinical departmental team and as a collaborative member of the Western campus community
- Demonstrated clinical skills in assessment, program planning, implementation and evaluation
- Intermediate computer skills in Windows, Microsoft Office, Email, Internet, Electronic Documentation
- Proven flexibility and ability to adapt to change and demonstrated commitment to competence in interpersonal relationships, assessment and evaluation, intervention, consultation, and research
