Position Summary:

Huntington’s disease (HD) is a devastating, inherited neurological disorder that causes psychiatric, cognitive and movement deficits. The Thompson laboratory has been engaged in investigating molecular mechanisms that underlie pathogenesis in HD, and more recently ALS and XDP, with the goal of slowing or stopping progression through target identification and validation in multiple model systems. The lab utilizes biochemical and molecular approaches, stem cell modeling, cell culture, and mouse models of disease.

Under supervision, incumbent will be responsible for assisting with mouse breeding and animal preclinical behavioral and molecular studies, stereotaxic transplantations of cells or virus into mice, as well as routine surgeries, dosing, euthanasia, and tissue collection. In addition, incumbent will assist with receiving, distribution and inventory of some supplies and equipment for the laboratory. Position will require providing general support to graduate students, postdocs and technicians in the use of equipment and laboratory procedures, as well as carrying out basic immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry on cell culture and mouse tissue. With assistance and/or supervision, individual will perform standard molecular biology techniques including but not limited to PCR, agarose and acrylamide gel electrophoresis of proteins and DNA, preparing and maintaining stocks of plasmid DNA, molecular cloning, Western and qPCRs and other protocols as required as general support for lab projects.

Compensation Range:

Hourly Rate: $23.24- 25.30

Basic knowledge of molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, tissue staining, fluorescent microscopy, data analysis, imaging and computer skills.

Strong communication skills; both verbal and written. Clear and concise communicator. Demonstrated knowledge of molecular biology and biochemistry techniques Demonstrated knowledge of tissue staining, and fluorescent microscopy Strong data analysis, imaging and computer skills.


Experience with common microbiology techniques, in situ hybridization, plasmid maxi & mini preps, genotyping, CRISPR-Cas9, computational analysis of data. Knowledge and experience with standard cell culture, stem cell culturing/biology and differentiations.

Special Conditions Required:

Must be willing to work evenings and weekends with irregular work schedule dependent on the required experimental conditions
