About the Department:The Department of Computer Science is an academic teaching and research department in the College of Engineering. It is a large and complex unit that encompasses research intensive, teaching intensive and professional activities. It is one of the largest such departments in the nation by the number of faculty and students, and its total budget and size are comparable to some NC State University colleges and divisions.
Essential Job Duties:The Department of Computer Science at North Carolina State University (NCSU) seeks to fill a tenure-track faculty position in theoretical computer science (TCS). Candidates with additional expertise in algorithms, graph theory, computational geometry, experimental algorithmics, topological data analysis, or in the theoretical aspects of quantum computing, cryptography, machine learning, or complex systems, are of particular (but not exclusive) interest.
The position involves instructing and mentoring both undergraduate and graduate instruction, leading impactful research programs, publishing in high-profile conferences and journals, attracting external funding to support research, as well as community outreach and broader impact activities.
Direct graduate student research in the different areas of Computer Science.

Minimum Experience and Education:Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field.
Other Required Qualifications:Candidates should possess excellent teaching skills and an ability to attract external funding for and conduct research programs supportive of the Department’s focus areas. Excellent verbal and writing skills are required.
Preferred Qualifications:Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field. Exceptional candidates in all areas of Computer Science will be considered, but of particular interest are candidates specializing in the area of Theoretical Computer Science. Successful candidates must have a strong commitment to academic and research excellence, and an outstanding research record commensurate with the expectations of a major research university. While the department expects to hire at the Assistant Professor level, candidates with exceptional research records may be considered for Associate or Full Professor positions.
