The Department of Health and Society at the University of Toronto Scarborough is home to a diverse community of students, teachers, and researchers. We ask cutting-edge questions about health, disability, illness, and disease both locally and globally and from a range of disciplinary perspectives. Talented and committed students and faculty work together in complimentary and linked degree options: a BA Major or BA Major Co-op, a BSc Major or BSc Major Co-op, and Canada’s only Minor in Health Humanities. Health and Society students bring their learning to a variety of scholarly, professional, and community contexts. Working with award-winning faculty and teaching assistants, students produce ethnographic videos, create policy briefs, and visit health centres and community farms in the Greater Toronto Area. They curate museum exhibits on health and illness, write papers that go on to be published in academic journals, conduct research at area hospitals, andprepare to enter (and win!) international case competitions.

Your opportunity:

In order to advance the program objectives of the Department of Health and Society, we are recruiting a Program Coordinator who can demonstrate a commitment to the success of academic departments, a passion for student success, and the skills and sensibilities required to enhance students’ experiences in a culturally diverse environment.

Working closely with the Department Chair and directly reporting to the Manager of Finance and Administration, the Program Coordinator is responsible for student advising, course timetable development and coordination, analysis of enrolment patterns and curricular trends, internal and external communications; and programming to support excellence in teaching and learning.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising students on academic and/or financial matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
  • Analyzing statistical information to inform enrollment projections and planning
  • Producing promotional and outreach materials
  • Maintaining information on digital platforms
  • Coordinating tasks for projects and other strategic initiatives with stakeholders
  • Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements
  • Handling sensitive and/or confidential information
  • Serving as a resource to others by providing (non-supervisory) job-related guidance

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of four years of related experience in student advising, educational programming, and/or curriculum and program development and delivery.
  • Strong computer skillswith proficiency in MS Office Suites (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SharePoint, web-editing software and relational databases.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to conditions that promote and support university student success.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain productive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to address sensitive and/or confidential matters with tact and discretion; adhering to established policiesand procedures.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to work well under pressure and meet competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, with demonstrated ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Highly developed presentation and communication skills (verbal and written) skills.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
