DescriptionUnder the direction of the HSC Campus FireMarshal, the Assistant Fire Marshal is responsible to plan, organize andconduct fire prevention and fire investigation programs for the Health SciencesCenter (HSC) Campus.  This position provides expertise to University andHospital clients in support of the facilities fire protection and preventionoperation, and attends to various technical or mechanical duties. Performs avariety of administrative, technical and supervisory work related to fireinspection and prevention such as; schedules, supervises and conductsinspections of existing structures, construction and remodel sites forcompliance with fire codes; resolves compliance problems within scope ofknowledge and authority; reviews construction plans; and conducts fire drills.This position requires contact with representatives of local, state and federalagencies, including the City of Philadelphia, The Joint Commission, the PADepartment of Health, and the public. Performs other related duties asassigned.


Required Education & Experience:Bachelor’sdegree or equivalent education and experience in Fire Science, Fire Inspectionand Investigation, or Fire Protection Engineering. At least three (3) years ofdirectly related experience as a full-time Firefighter or Fire Code EnforcementOfficial. Previous experience in public fire education, fire causedetermination, fire service instruction, fire code enforcement, or emergencypreparedness training. Successful completion of updated Fire Code/FireInspection classes within the last three years. Must have International CodeCouncil Fire Inspector II certification. An equivalent combination of educationand experience may be considered.


Required Skills& Abilities:

*Must have working knowledge of the reasons andintent of fire code requirements as well as a working knowledge of buildingconstruction and fire protection systems.

*Must have excellent reasoning and criticalthinking skills with an ability to generate appropriate solutions.

*Must have excellent written communicationskills and the ability to write clear and concise memos, reports and otherdocumentation.

*Ability to work independently and organizemany projects simultaneously and prioritize work.

*Must have a working knowledge of computers andMicrosoft Office programs including Word and Excel.

*Ability to work a flexible schedule as neededMonday-Friday to allow for early morning, evening or weekend appointments,training, or meetings.

*Must be able to analyze situations and adopt aquick, effective and reasonable course of action, especially under conditionswhich may at times be psychologically and emotionally stressful.

*Must be able to meet the physical requirementsof the position and be able to conduct occupancy inspections, annual hazardinspections, fire flow tests, and fire protection system tests as necessary.

*Knowledge of NFPA codes, International Firecode, International Building codes and County codes relating to fireregulations.

 Thisposition requires a background check; which includes a motor vehicle recordscheck
Thisposition requires a valid, current driver’s license
