Professional Research Assistant

Nature of Work/Summary of Job

Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism & Diabetes is seeking a Professional Research Assistant to maintain and conduct animal studies and husbandry, perform in vitro assays of various directions and cell lines, run and maintain specialized vascular and phytochemical instrumentation, maintain records of collected data and analysis, and present data and other relevant information in laboratory meetings.

Examples of Work Performed

The PRA will work with animal models.  He/she will perform animal survival and non-survival surgeries, collect tissues and samples from animals for vascular function and mitochondrial measurements; process tissues for protein isolation or immunohistochemistry; conduct Western blot, and ELISA assays; conduct cell culture studies; conduct and help with reactive oxygen species measurement; conduct microscopy as necessary. The applicant will be involved in experimental design and data analysis. Additionally, the applicant will be expected to work as part of a team and manage responsibilities accordingly.

The PRA may train others on any laboratory procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Experience performing experiments with mice and rats is preferred, as well as knowledge of basic anatomy, cell culture, and laboratory techniques.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree and laboratory experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.


Preferred Qualifications:  Experience in handling animals and performing both in vivo and in vitro studies.
