Position Description:

The College of Charleston’s School of Languages, Cultures and World Affairs (LCWA) invites applications for a position as an Instructor of International Studies to begin August 16, 2021. The Instructor is a renewable position, and during the sixth year undergoes review for promotion to the rank of Senior Instructor. The position is benefits-eligible; the salary is competitive. The International Studies Program is interested in candidates whose teaching and research focus match the description below. We seek candidates who employ inter- and trans-national perspectives in their research and teaching. Those who utilize comparative political and/or interdisciplinary approaches are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates will also have the opportunity to contribute to college-wide, globally-focused initiatives and programs. An earned PhD in International Studies or related fields (including but not limited to Sociology, Political Science, Area Studies, Anthropology, Geography, History) by August 15, 2021 is required. ABD candidates with degree completion expected by August 15, 2021 will be considered.

Position: The candidate should be able to teach Introduction to International Studies as well as upper-level Cross-Regional and Special Topics courses (e.g. on democratization or global governance). They would ideally contribute to one or more concentrations in the major, in particular the Europe and/or Global Studies Concentrations. The ability to teach courses employing simulations or experiential learning strategies are highly desired (e.g. Model United Nations or other active learning courses, etc.). Candidates with prior experience in mentoring and advising students are especially encouraged to apply.

The International Studies program began at the College in 2010 and is now the largest major in the School of Languages, Cultures, and World Affairs. The International Studies Program includes faculty with backgrounds in History, Economics, Anthropology, Public Health, and Political Science and prides itself on multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary teaching and research.
