Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.
Unit Position SummaryPrimary Duties: This communication/editorial assistant will work with the SMRJ Chief Editor, Asst. Editor and other SMRJ staff to:
- Track and log initial and updated Scholastica, Ltd. SMRJ submissions;
- Contact and communicate with SMRJ submission authors to refine and pre-review manuscript drafts;
- Manage and document the flow of manuscripts from submission to acceptance;
- Manage communications between SMRJ authors and editors concerning submissions and accepted manuscripts;
- Perform manuscript quality checks and ensure that all legal/Scholastica/PubMedCentral forms are collected and stored;
- Schedule and coordinate bi-annual SMRJ editorial team and SCS Scholarly Activity Subcommittee meetings; and
- Provide general assistance receiving messages, scheduling meetings, making copies, recordkeeping etc.
Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Completed undergraduate degree in English, Journalism or pertinent field;
- Current graduate student in one of these undergraduate majors listed above;
- Demonstrated experience using MS Word, Outlook and Excel software programs;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Experience working within a journal office team and meeting daily deadlines; and
- Experience with troubleshooting/addressing operational editorial office issues.
