* Department Information Our faculty study a variety of fundamental questions ranging from neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders, functions of the nervous system and regenerative medicine, using a broad repertoire of experimental approaches. A number of doctoral students of Neuroscience and Molecular Medicine PhD Programs are doing their thesis research in the department. The department is also a major contributor to Augusta University’s Center for Healthy Aging, a multidisciplinary consortium whose mission to improve and restore function to injured and degenerating tissues of the human body. The department places a strong emphasis on translational research with collaborations with multiple clinical departments including Neurology, Psychiatry, Orthopaedic Surgery, Neurosurgery and Medicine.Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.

Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Willingness and ability to work with research animalsAbility to work independently with only general supervisionExcellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skillsAbility to maintain confidentiality, complete work and meet deadlinesDetail-oriented with strong organizational, prioritization and multi-tasking skillsProficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learnResponsibilities The duties include, but are not limited to:

- Perform bench studies involving the cerebral ischemia model and conducting animal studies on histology and immunohistochemistry. Perform the functional improvement effects of certain drugs/treatments, using the tests of Elevated Plus Maze, Open Field and Barnes Maze. Will analyze results, interpret data and confer with PI on research plans.
- Perform perfusion of animal collects and dissect brain tissue. Perform gene array, EM study, single cell analysis, RT-PCR, ELISAs, western blots and immunopecipitations.
- Maintain breeding colonies, laser treatment and genotyping on transgenic Alzheimer's disease rat.
- Perform all other related duties/tasks as assigned.
