The Department of Music in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham invites applications for a one-year, full-time, temporary, non-tenure track visiting assistant professor, beginning in August of 2021.

UAB is a Carnegie Level 1 research university and academic health center named the Top Young University in the U.S. in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.  The Department of Music is one of five performing and visual arts partners, along with the Department of Theatre, the Department of Art and Art History, the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts, and the Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center.

Primary responsibility will be to teach applied voice to undergraduate music and musical theatre majors and graduate music education students, serve as stage director for full opera productions, and teach Opera Workshop and other courses as needed. Candidates with significant professional experience in musical theatre performance are especially encouraged to apply.

A Master’s degree in music is required (doctorate in music preferred) along with evidence of effective voice studio teaching in both classical and musical theatre genres. Because the faculty in the Department of Music cultivate and maintain a mutually supportive community, evidence of professional and collegial collaboration with colleagues is an important qualification for this position.
