Department Information Pharmacology and Toxicology was established as a department at the Medical College of Georgia in 1943. Neuroscience and cardiovascular and studies are the focuses of the department's research programs. Model systems and state-of-the-art experimental approaches assist graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and staff scientists research basic neurobiology and clinical neuropathology. Minimum Requirements Ph.D. or equivalent from an accredited college or university.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Self-motivated for high-quality researchStrong prioritization and time management skillsWillingness and ability to work with research animalsDetail-oriented with the ability to maintain confidentiality Good oral/written communication and organizational skillsAbility to work independently with only general supervisionCommitted to achieving excellence in the form of productivity and publicationsProficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learnBackground in neuroscience, molecular and cellular biology and mouse behavioral analysis is idealPreferred Qualifications Background in neuroscience, molecular and cellular biology and mouse behavioral analysis is ideal; Previous lab experience and computer skills are desirableResponsibilities A training position designed to carry out advanced independent research to achieve the objectives of the research project, ensuring consistency with established methodological approaches and models, adherence to project timelines and completeness of documentation. Participate in research data collection and analysis; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures; conduct studies of related literature; write and publish articles in scientific journals. The duties include, but are not limited to:
Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while insuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelinesPerform a variety of experimental studies including animal behavior, cell biology and molecular biology experimentsExperiments may include but not be limited to performing animal surgery, microinjection, behavioral testing, genotyping, western blot, real-time PCR, immunohistochemistry and various microscopy and imaging techniquesAnalyze results of experiments and procedures using manual or computer techniques and, if necessary, develop special computer programs to facilitate analysisCoordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; Develop derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects; Present findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally and internationallyCompose articles for publication in scientific journals; review articles prepared by othersSupervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants and other research personnel engaged in research activities and/or related laboratory work; Advise principal investigators, other postdocs, students and other researchPerform all other related duties/tasks as assigned
Shift/Salary This position is supported by grant funds.
Shift: Full-Time/Days/M-F Salary: $47,476/Annually
