Responsibilities Research Associate In this position is expected to assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in the day-to-day operations and maintenance of a neuroscience laboratory that studies the mechanisms of cognition and strategies of cognitive rehabilitation. The duties include, but are not limited to:
    Performing experimental studies using a combination of behavioral, neurophysiological and imaging techniquesAnalyzing, interpreting data and coordinating with PI and other laboratory personnel about research plansHandling, training and day-to-day interaction with patients/human study subjectsHelping manage day-to-day operations, upkeep of the laboratory and compliance with all regulatory requirementsWorking with human subjects regularly, carrying out psychophysical (behavioral) experiments on study subjects, and assisting the PI and other lab personnel in various experiments, including neuroimaging (functional magnetic resonance Imaging [fMRI], electroencephalography [EEG] and/or eye-tracking) experimentsGeneral management for labs, including (but not limited to) maintaining the laboratory, including ordering reagents, equipment, software etc. for the lab, ensuring compliance with all applicable study protocols, and cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment, data managementPerform all other related duties/tasks as assigned by the Principal investigator
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Ability to maintain confidentialityExcellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skillsProficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databasesAbility to learn (with supervision) to perform cognitive science experimentsShift/Salary/Benefits Shift: Days/M-F, Work outside of the normal business hours may be required.   • Prior experience carrying out, or assisting in, research in a laboratory setting.

Department Information Our faculty study a variety of fundamental questions ranging from neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders, functions of the nervous system and regenerative medicine, using a broad repertoire of experimental approaches. A number of doctoral students of Neuroscience and Molecular Medicine PhD Programs are doing their thesis research in the department. The department is also a major contributor to Augusta University’s Center for Healthy Aging, a multidisciplinary consortium whose mission to improve and restore function to injured and degenerating tissues of the human body. The department places a strong emphasis on translational research with collaborations with multiple clinical departments including Neurology, Psychiatry, Orthopaedic Surgery, Neurosurgery and Medicine. Laboratory Info:The laboratory’s research focuses on mechanisms underlying synaptic transmission of brain neurons. Highly motivated applicants with experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, and confocal microscopy are encouraged to apply. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience; previous supervisory experience.
