Responsibilities This position provides supervised health care services to adult benign hematology patients and performs a variety of administrative and clinical support duties related to the Augusta University Center for Blood Disorders. Administrative duties include but are not limited to: answering telephones; scheduling patients; insurance verification; updating and requesting patient medical records; assisting with consults/ referrals; maintaining census records and demographics databases; and other duties to support front office operations at the Center for Blood Disorders.Patient care duties include but are not limited to: taking vital signs; obtaining medical history, reason for visit, and medications list; recording patient care activities in electronic medical records; venipuncture; preparation and transport of lab samples; transmitting prescription refills; assisting with clinical inventory; and other activities to support back office operations at the Center for Blood Disorders. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    Administrative Duties:
      Manage phone calls by triaging and prioritizing as indicated; take detailed messages and forward appropriatelyManage prescription requests according to policies and procedures, and track/log prescription pick-upsSchedule patient appointments; register patients in IDX ensuring that all information (address, phone number, insurance) is correct; complete insurance authorizations/final verifications; complete patient check-in/check-out dutiesMake calls to patients for reminders/re-scheduling/no-show/follow-upMaintain organized, detailed, and thorough census records; prepare census reports to support grant and clinical requirements; create and maintain patient databasesEnsure that all patient-related documents and forms are completed and reviewed by appropriate individual; label all documents to be scanned to medical records; organize hard copy and electronic recordsEnsure all billing information/encounter forms are completed, forward billing documentation to AUMA promptlyAssist with completion of insurance forms and Prior Authorizations; respond to insurance and other third-party inquiriesAssist with referrals/consults; request/send medical records from/to outside providers as authorizedAssist with departmental outreach activities, including health promotion activities, outreach clinics, online surveys, and marketing
    Patient Care:
      Measure vital signsTake chief complaint, medical/social history, current medications, and other relevant intake informationVenipuncture, including difficult blood draws, specimen transport, and specimen processingPerform CLIA-waived in-house testingSet up exam rooms and assist providers during office proceduresDocument patient care in electronic medical recordsNotify patients of laboratory results after review by ordering providerTransmit prescription refills as directedAssist with clinical inventoryAssist Nurse Navigator by helping coordinate and facilitate appointments and patient contact with all disciplines and services
    Perform all other related duties as assigned.
