Job Summary

QUALIFICATIONS:

a. Graduate of an accredited Dental Assistant program. b. One (1) year experience as a Dental Assistant.

c. Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to apply principles of practice. GENERAL DUTIES:

Under general supervision, assists dentist/surgeon during examination, and treatment of

patients.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

*Provides chair side assistance by keeping operating field clear, passing instruments and suctioning.

*Sterilizes instruments in accordance with policies and procedures.

*Ensures proper mixing of restorative materials.

*Assists in taking, developing and mounting of intraoral and extraoral x-rays.

* Maintains x-ray unit, processor, autoclave, and dental unit according to specifications.

*Inventory and submit requisitions for supplies and equipment to ensure adequate levels of expendable and non expendable items required are available for all

procedures.

*Ensures a sufficient number of tray set ups are available for patients care each day: pulpotomy, caries control, amalgam, perio/scaling.

*Assists in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of the dental clinic.

* Maintains dental charts, which may include retrieving charts form different areas of the hospital.

*Records dental findings correctly.

*Schedules patient for dental appointments and prepares patients schedules for escort officer.

* Assists in cleaning of developer, autoclave and other instruments and equipment.

*Prepares reports as scheduled in a timely manner.

*Keeps the dark room in a clean and orderly manner.

*Performs dental screenings and schedules appointments as necessary.

*Cleans all drains regularly with soap and water to insure proper sanitation.

*Cleans examination lights, dental unit, x-ray unit, film processor per manufacture's/ policy and procedure of hospital.

*Changes wet tank chemicals per policy/ procedures.

* Assists in posting and pulling dental records, this may require obtaining records from other units in the hospital.

*Attend all required in services.

* Adhere to all policies and procedures of security.
