Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Ability to maintain confidentialityStrong managerial and logistical skillsEfficiency and reproducibility of work product¿Willingness and ability to work with research animalsExcellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skillsProficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databasesKnowledge of regulatory, safety and administrative requirements to maintain complianceKnowledge of and ability to apply the standard scientific methodology of the lab in performing research and experimental proceduresPreferred Experience in Medical physics is preferred.Responsibilities The Research Assistant assists the PI in designing and conducting experimental investigations using animals, mammalian cell culture, instrumental analysis techniques, molecular biology techniques, histological techniques and microscopic analysis. The duties include, but are not limited to:
- Maintain and manage the laboratory animal breeding colonies and experimental animals.Maintain and clean laboratory equipment and identify and schedule needed repairs; Ensure that supplies, glassware and plastic ware are cleaned and autoclaved per lab protocols; Prepare and maintain stock reagents for common lab use per lab protocols.Orient and instruct new laboratory members as to the workings of the lab, under the guidance of the PI.Manage the purchasing of all orders for chemicals, supplies, equipment, animals and biological materials; Maintain an accurate database of such lab business; Ensure that purchased materials are received in a timely fashion; Maintain and manage all laboratory inventories.Manage and maintain the biosafety, chemical safety and IACUC guidelines and protocols to ensure compliance.Design and perform experiments, under the direction of the PI, using a variety of animal-based, cell-based or molecular experimental systems, including, but not limited to: experimental animal manipulations, culture or primary mammalian cells, culture of cell lines, flow cytometry, histology, microscopy, immunological techniques and molecular biology procedures to analyze protein, DNA and RNA (including experiments requiring radioactive materials).Analyze, interpret and present data from such experiments; Learn and master new experimental techniques as needed to attain research goals; Generate and/or modify experimental laboratory protocols and maintain a protocol database.Perform all other related duties/tasks as assigned.
