- Minimum of High School Degree or GED equivalent. Prefer Two years clinical experience. Functions within the Georgia Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations, Georgia Board of Nursing Rules and Regulations, GDC Standard Operating Procedures, GCHC Policies and Procedures. Good physical and mental health; able to work under pressure. Must be able to lift 50lbs. Normal bending, reaching, stooping. Standing and sitting for long periods of time. Must be able to walk long distances at times through out the compound. Relate well to patients, security staff, visitors, and co-workers. Normal levels of hearing and seeing, if necessary, with corrective appliances.Security clearance by the Georgia Department of Corrections
GENERAL DUTIES:Responsible for carrying out duties and tasks as assigned by Director of Nursing to include: Receiving medication into the facility, Separates medications for delivery for Self Administered Medications (SAMs)/ Direct Observed Therapy (DOT), Reports any discrepancies to pharmacy or DON, Maintain Standard Ward stock and OTC stock per PAR levels, Work with GCHC Pharmacy staff serving the medical site with any issues,
- Reports directly to the DON to discuss any concerns/issues.Maintains a professional attitude and dress at all times in accordance with GCHC / GDC dress code policy. Works as scheduled and adheres to GCHC policies for leave, timekeeping and call ins. Maintain a professional attitude and behavior at all times. Maintains a good working relationship / responds appropriately with correctional and health care staff, contract providers, outside agencies within the facility. Utilizes established departmental policies and procedures in making decisions; uses sound independent judgement in meeting responsibilities and performing duties of the position.Adheres to HIPAA Regulations and maintains all patient confidentiality as required by Law and GDC/GCHC Policy.Does not fraternize with inmates beyond professional contact.Follows chain of command for problem resolution.Adheres to all security regulations and reports any security concerns to immediate supervisor.Assist in data collection and production of reports related to pharmacy activities. Attend all meetings, in-services and training activities assigned by DONAssist in training new personnelAll other administrative duties as assigned.
- Receives medications from Pharmacy to the medical unit.Process medication refill orders. Print MARs and MAR labels.Print Rx Pro medication report for the physicians and psychiatrists.Enter refill requests into Rx Pro if approved by regional pharmacy.File MARs into the medical chart.Compares Pharmacy Batch Report to the Nursing Pharmacy Log.Reports any discrepancies found on Log comparisons or MARs to pharmacy or DON. Separates medications into SAMs and DOT categories. Deliver medications and stock meds to appropriate areas of the medical unit (i.e. pill room, sick call, ER/Treatment room)Wraps SAMs MARs around the medication after verification of accuracy is complete.Maintains Sick Call, Standard Ward Inventory, Dorm Stocks, and Treatment stocks to PAR level minimums. Orders restock medication in a timely manner. Completes annual medication training.Issues SAMs medications (Documentation of annual medication training must be on file). Maintains Pharmacy Batch Reports and Nursing Pharmacy Logs in a retrievable manner for required length of time. Logs in Return to Pharmacy medications forwarded by the nursing staff and places returned medications in the designated area for storage until pharmacy retrieves. Follows all security and documentation procedures. Check medication areas for expired medications and return to pharmacy as indicated.Ensure medications are available for intrasystem transfers; arrivals, transfers, return from court, return from outside appointment, etc. Coordinate with pharmacy to arrange receipt of discharge medications for inmates leaving GDC. Legibly completes all mandated logs in accordance with GDC/GCHC SOP.Completes required shift report before leaving the unit as required by DON.Prepares regularly scheduled reports and special reports as directed.Required to maintain cleanliness of work areas and re-stock as needed.Requests training on additional areas as needed and completes training as scheduled by the DON. Identifies any incidents of improper drug use or existing and potential problems and makes recommendations to supervisors.Promotes quality assurance standards by participating in the CQI chart audits as requested.Provides other services and performs other duties as assigned.
