Job Information Job ID: 216548Position # 20001684 The Georgia Cancer Center and the Children's Medical Center at Georgia Health Science University invite applications for the Chief, Section of Hematology/Oncology. This is a tenure-track physician-scientist position. The successful candidate will bring an outstanding basic-science or clinical/ translational research program in an area relevant to Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. The ideal candidate may bring clinical and/or research focus in an area that complements existing strengths on campus in pediatric hematology/oncology disease. Substantial resources are available to the qualified candidate, including the Georgia Cancer Center Molecular Oncology Program, Immune Therapy Clinical Trials Program and Experimental Therapeutic Trials Program, which is a highly funded group of basic and clinician scientists operating in excellent facilities.

Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is a thriving academic medical center that in the past decade has logged a 48 percent increase in student applications, a 25 percent increase in student enrollment, and a 146 percent increase in sponsored research. The Augusta University main campus is located in Augusta, Georgia's second largest city.

Augusta University houses a number of specialty research institutes and centers with a focus on genomics, proteomics, and molecular medicine. It is home to the Institute of Molecular Medicine and Genetics, Center for Genomic Medicine and Biotechnology, Molecular Oncology Program, Immune Therapy, Experimental Therapeutic Trials Program, and Immunotherapy Center, all of which provide opportunities for collaborative work. Clinical research is conducted through the Georgia Cancer Center translational research infrastructure, the NCORP grant, investigator-initiated trials, and participation in Cooperative Group studies.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will develop robust clinical programs in collaboration with the Surgical and Radiation Oncologists within the Cancer Center’s multidisciplinary tumor clinics. The successful candidate will collaborate with basic and translational scientists and clinical investigators in developing a state-of-the-art research program. This position will have teaching, research, clinical and administration efforts.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates should be board-certified or board-eligible in Pediatric-Hematology/Oncology. The final candidate will be required to provide proof of completed academic degree in the form of original transcript.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous practice experience in pediatric oncology is strongly preferred.

Shift/Salary

A competitive salary is offered commensurate with experience and includes an incentive plan that rewards clinical productivity and/or research funding success.

Conditions of Employment

All candidates are required to successfully pass a Background Check review. For specific positions, the final candidate may be subject to a (pre-employment) physical, drug screen, and/or credit check.

The final candidate will be required to provide proof of completed academic degree in the form of an original transcript. Those candidates trained by a foreign institution will also be required to provide an educational/credential evaluation.
