Summary of Duties: The successful candidates will be expected to pursue an active research agenda and teach undergraduate and graduate criminal justice courses in the areas of racism and social inequality as it relates to criminal justice and criminology as well as in additional substantive topics related to the candidate’s expertise. Additionally, successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to supporting first generation and BIPOC student populations, and are expected to engage in service for the department, university, and in the discipline.

Required Qualifications: A PhD in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or closely related fields is required prior to appointment. Candidates must primarily study issues related to racism and social inequality as applied to the discipline of criminal justice and criminology. Candidates must also be able to mentor students at all levels in this area and offer undergraduate and graduate-level courses related to race, criminal justice, and criminology.

We are seeking scholars and educators who have the capacity to make meaningful contributions in the areas of inequity and justice as well as criminal justice and social conflict.

Associate Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence Recently Announced
Dr. Lisa Guerrero was recently named associate vice provost for inclusive excellence. Guerrero has been an active advocate for diversity and inclusion since joining the WSU faculty in 2004. She is currently a professor of Comparative Ethnic Studies in WSU’s School of Languages, Cultures, and Race. She will maintain her faculty position, while serving as associate vice provost in a half-time appointment.
Dr. Guerrero will provide leadership to academic affairs in implementing WSU’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. She will help to identify and implement best practices and evidence-based approaches in faculty hiring, tenure and promotion, research support, faculty retention, teaching and mentoring, and curriculum planning. One of her first areas of responsibility will be to oversee the Racism and Social Inequality in the Americas faculty cluster hire program for Fall 2021.
