Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Position Summary:

The technician will predominantly work on molecular genetic experiments to further the research program. This will involve multiple approaches, including: DNA molecular analysis (PCR, sub-cloning DNA, transfections); protein work (Western blots, immunoprecipitations); genetics (crossing C. elegans strains and analyzing mutant phenotypes); and cell biology using stereomicroscopy, compound microscopy, confocal microscopy to analyze structures/proteins by DIC microscopy, epifluorescence microscopy with fluorescent proteins, and immunofluorescence. Work that generates figures in manuscripts will allow co-authorship on the manuscripts.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

Research experience and ability to work with Mac computers. The successful candidate will: focus on experiments to ensure they are successful; pay attention to details to ensure that experiments are successful; stay organized and plan multi-day experiments, and multitask experiments and lab maintenance (to overlap and accomplish multiple experiments and tasks at the same time).
