Reporting to the Assistant University Librarian for Collections Strategy, the Collections & Scholarly Communications Analyst gathers and integrates collections and scholarly communications data from diverse sources and about all formats, optimizing the quality and use of the data collected and using creativity to overcome roadblocks. The analyst champions a culture of data-driven assessment performing complex analyses and presenting the data to Library selectors and administrators to support decision-making. In addition to managing projects related to analysis of collection and scholarly communications data, the analyst will develop and maintain tools for baseline and ad hoc analyses and is adept at problem solving, data visualizations and representations, report-writing, and the development of data communications.
Duties:
- Acquire, analyze, and report on quantitative and qualitative data about collections and scholarly communication such as expenditures, usage, growth, resource sharing activities, and publishing and access to Penn scholarship.
- Analyze and assess the value and impact of transformative agreements on collections.
- Develop and improve processes for acquiring quantitative and qualitative data on collections from diverse sources including library systems and staff, third party tools such as Unsub, observations, surveys, web analytics, interviews and focus groups.
- Facilitate collaborations with our peers through analysis of aggregated consortial data, sharing analysis of our collections with peers as appropriate, and participation on collaborative projects that require collections analysis expertise
- Analyze our shared collections, shared print retention commitments, the location of our print collections, and materials for digitization.
- Provide consultation, training, and documentation to support other library staff as they gather, process, analyze, manage, and report data related to library collections.
- Engage in formal and informal professional development activities to enhance awareness of scholarly trends and learn new skills.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications:
- An accredited Master’s degree in library science or the equivalent in education and training
- One to three years of relevant professional experience in an academic research library
- Experience developing and managing data from multiple sources and conducting data analysis
- Advanced skills using Excel or other software to manipulate, summarize, and present data
- Demonstrated ability to prepare concise, logical reports and present recommendations and solutions
- Demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated problem solving skills
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collegially with professional colleagues and scholars at all levels
- Attention to detail with capacity for carrying out tasks in an accurate manner and ability to check own work for accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
- An additional graduate degree or coursework in a related field, including computer science or graphic design
- Experience in project planning
- Experience using Alma and familiarity with usage data and standards such as COUNTER
- Familiarity with patterns of publishing and management of licensed digital resources in an academic library setting
