Job Details

President

The University of Redlands (https://apptrkr.com/2110265) and its Board of Trustees seek an enthusiastic and inspirational leader for the role of president. The 12th president will have proven leadership experience and capabilities, will understand the opportunities and challenges confronting private higher education today and in the ever-evolving future, and will demonstrate a determination and the confidence to set aspirational goals and a bold agenda to advance the institution.

Established in 1907, the University of Redlands, with nearly 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students, blends liberal arts and professional programs, applied and theoretical study, traditional majors and self-designed contracts for graduation. Small classes enable each student to participate in class discussion, work closely with professors, and receive extensive individual attention. The University remains sensitive to contemporary trends in society and challenges students to commit themselves to a lifetime of learning.

Located in Southern California’s Inland Empire, one of the fastest-growing population centers in the U.S., the beautiful 160-acre main campus is within easy distance of snow skiing, hiking, and climbing to the north, some of the world’s best beaches to the south and west, Palm Springs and Joshua Tree to the east, and the urban culture of Los Angeles to the west. Other campuses include six regional locations across Southern California that provide innovative programs for working professionals and a wooded 13-acre campus in Marin County, which became part of the University of Redlands in 2019 with the merger between the University and San Francisco Theological Seminary.

This presidency affords an exceptional opportunity to lead an institution with a proud history and an outstanding reputation at a time when the University is on the precipice of closing out a successful $200 million capital campaign and embarking on its next strategic plan. The next president will build community and galvanize the various sectors of the University around a common vision for the institution’s future; diversify revenue streams; embrace and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion with a commitment to action and outcomes that will lead all people to feel secure, heard, and respected; and be a visible, enthusiastic presence and fundraiser. For additional information about the University, the position, the qualifications sought, and how to apply, please review the presidential search prospectus (https://academicsearch.org/wp-content/uploads/formidable/8/University-of-Redlands-Presidential-Search-Prospectus.pdf).

The University of Redlands is a private, independent liberal arts university centrally located in the heart of southern California. Situated in the area east of Los Angeles known as the Inland Empire, the beautiful Redlands campus is within easy traveling distance of snow skiing, hiking and climbing to the north, some of the world’s best beaches to the south, Palm Springs and Joshua Tree to the east, and the urban culture of Los Angeles to the west.

Ranked 12th among regional universities in the West by U.S. News & World Report, Redlands offers 50 undergraduate programs as well as graduate programs in business, communicative disorders, education, geographic information systems and music.

The University of Redlands serves approximately 5,000 students in its primarily undergraduate residential College of Arts and Sciences, as well as its School of Education and School of Business, which offer graduate programs at eight locations across southern California in addition to the main campus. The School of Continuing Studies offers non-degree program credentials and course opportunities.

Redlands blends liberal arts and professional programs, applied and theoretical study, traditional majors and self-designed contracts for graduation. For a select group of highly motivated, self-driven students, the progressive Johnston Center for Integrative Studies allows such inclined undergraduates to negotiate their own course of study with a faculty/peer committee, receiving narrative evaluations rather than letter grades.

The Master of Science in Geographic Information Systems program is an intensive, one-year residential program that draws international acclaim, in part due to the close collaboration with Redlands-based Esri, the world’s leading GIS company.

Recognized for having one of the highest study abroad participation rates among our peers, Redlands students travel the world, choosing from more than 100 programs. Redlands’ Community Service Learning program receives national acclaim each year as our students complete over 120,000 hours of public service annually around the world.
