The Department of Economics in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto, St. George Campus, invites applications for a two-year contractually limited term appointment in the area of Economics. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and is expected to commence on July 1, 2021, or shortly thereafter, and end June 30, 2023.

Applicants must have earned a PhD in Economics or related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching in Economics. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement our existing departmental strengths. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. The successful candidate must present clear evidence of an excellent teaching record and have the demonstrated capacity to adeptly teach our large-enrollment introductory and/or intermediate courses at the undergraduate level and possess excellent expository, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in research, as can be demonstrated by an innovative job market paper with a significant contribution to the literature and strong recommendations by referees of high standing. Further support can be provided by high quality working papers, publications in prominent journals or forthcoming publications, presentations at significant conferences, accolades, or awards.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, strong letters of reference, and a teaching dossier including a statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi, teaching evaluations or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities submitted as part of the application. Other teaching-related activities can include performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, as well as excellent conference presentations or posters.


Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
