Department Summary:

The UNT System Business Service Center (BSC) is home to several of the university system’s shared and central services, including the Controllership. The BSC service groups provide all accounting, reporting, purchasing and business-service focused operations for all of the University of North Texas System component institutions. Areas of responsibility for these shared and central services include Payroll, Financial Accounting & Reporting, Accounts Payable, and Procurement, among others. The University of North Texas System is comprised of: the University of North Texas (located in Denton), the University of North Texas Health Science Center (in Fort Worth), the University of North Texas at Dallas, and the University of North Texas System (downtown Dallas).

This position is located at the Business Service Center at Woodhill Square, just south of our flagship campus in Denton.

Position Overview:

The UNTS Controller Operations Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Payroll Analyst II to join our team.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field and three years related payroll/time and labor experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of applicable laws, codes regulations, standards, methods and practices related to payroll and/or time and labor systems.
• Experience with PeopleSoft North American Payroll, and/or Time and Labor, modules.
• Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University policies and procedures related to the area of assignment.
• Skill in making mathematical calculations and computations with intermediate to advanced MS Excel experience.
• Thorough understanding of payroll process from time entry, and leave accruals.
• Ability to provide high-quality customer service and maintain those standards for the area.
• Experience leading teams and the ability to encourage, inspire and support others to develop confidence and capability to help them realize their full potential.
• Ability to keep complex records; to assemble and organize data of complex nature, and to prepare and submit reports in acceptable formats.

Mon – Fri; 8 am to 5 pm; overtime as needed

Performs routine (Journey-level) payroll work.

o:

Work involves payroll services using guidelines, rules, policies, and laws.

o:

Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

o:

Processes monthly and semi-monthly payroll in PeopleSoft North American Payroll module.

o:

Maintains employee pay data, records pay data changes, interprets policies and procedures and State and Federal regulations affecting payroll procedures.

o:

Reports data; reviews and ensures accurate computation of pay, conducts appropriate audits to ensure data integrity and compliance; coordinates with internal departments as appropriate to resolve discrepancies.

o:

Provides customer service across institutions; analyzes and recommends solutions to address customer issues related to payroll.

o:

Represents organization utilizing effective communication and customer service skills to serve customers and provide information.
