About the California Policy Lab
The California Policy Lab (CPL) is a public policy research center based at UC Berkeley and UCLA. CPL creates data-driven insights for the public good. Our mission is to improve the lives of Californians by generating evidence that transforms public policy. We do this by forming lasting partnerships between the government and California's flagship public universities to help evaluate and improve public programs through rigorous empirical research and technical assistance.
The Lab launched in January 2017 and now has a $5.5 million annual budget and three dozen staff across two sites. We have developed new research infrastructure that unlocks the power of administrative data in the world's fifth largest economy and established research partnerships with Government agencies to address California's most urgent issues, including homelessness, poverty, crime, and education inequality.
The Operations Director will join at a critical juncture in our development and help the UC Berkeley Lab grow. The position
The CPL Operations Director will be a leader for our growing organization, managing the fiscal, personnel, facilities, process, and event needs of CPL's UC Berkeley office. You will partner with CPL's executive, legal and IT leads, research and administrative staff, and coordinate with University entities and research affiliates, to ensure the efficient operation and strategic growth of our UC Berkeley Lab.
The ideal candidate is strategic, collaborative and process-oriented. We are seeking a candidate who will take initiative and help to shape our organization for the future. You will have a track record in organizational development and management, and be committed to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion at all levels of our organization. You will manage the budget and develop fiscal projections, oversee hiring and onboarding, manage our internal processes, databases, and office facilities. You will ideally have experience in both startup environments and in large bureaucracies, as our Lab has elements of both.
The main responsibilities of the Operations Director will be:
The Operations Director will report to Executive Director Evan White, and will also work closely with Faculty Director Jesse Rothstein, Research Director Johanna Lacoe, CPL's legal, communications, partnerships, and IT leads, and CPL's talented research staff.
The position will work remotely until at least June 2021 (subject to change). Long term, the position will be based at our UC Berkeley offices.
Required Qualifications

Salary & Benefits
This position is full-time, and will start as a two-year contract. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The expected start date is Winter/Spring 2021.
