The Educational Researcher is responsible for supporting the Online Learning Consortium’s (OLC’s) in-house research efforts. They will assist OLC in designing and implementing initiatives that transform the digital teaching and learning landscape through research. To be successful in this position, the Educational Researcher will have thorough knowledge of current and emerging trends in digital learning, as well as current trends in educational research. This knowledge will help amplify empirical research and evidenced-based practices that are published or supported by the organization and its strategic research partners. Working in close partnership with key members of the staff, this role will engage with a rich portfolio of research projects and initiatives for online, blended and digital learning. Joining the fully-remote OLC team, the ideal candidate exhibits attention to detail, enjoys communicating and collaborating with others, and works well as part of a team.

Job Duties 

  • Design and develop research projects and related initiatives. This includes, but is not limited to: 
  • Conducting systematic literature reviews, leveraging methods (e.g., literature review maps, literature review matrices, annotated bibliographies) for making sense of large pools of literature;  
  • Developing research designs, data collection approaches, and strategies for data management that align with clearly articulated research questions and ethical considerations for participants; 
  • Designing, creating, revising, and administering research instruments, as necessary, to ensure quality data that aligns with research questions; 
  • Coordinating multiple data collection efforts for one or more research projects which may include other collaborating agencies or institutions; 
  • Analyzing qualitative and quantitative data to determine and visualize findings related to key research questions;
  • Writing technical reports, white papers, executive summaries, recommendations, or other types of internal or external reports, publications, or presentations related to research projects; and
  • Ensuring that all research projects are executed successfully and completed within time frames to meet research objectives. 
  • Contribute to OLC publication, promotion, and marketing efforts. This includes, but is not limited to: 
  • Providing operational support to the Online Learning Journal (OLJ); 
  • Supporting partners as they publish pieces (e.g., whitepapers, ebooks, books, etc.) with OLC;
  • Developing marketing collateral and assets for specific research projects that disseminates findings in collaboration with the OLC marketing team; and
  • Collaborating with OLC staff and partners to promote OLC’s research and innovation initiatives through presentations, publications, webinars and social media presence.
  • Mentor emerging scholars, graduate students, and OLC staff in support of quality research and publications.
  • Partner with the executive team to develop and operationalize strategic planning and growth efforts of the OLC Research Center.
  • Provide support to the organization with other core duties assigned by the Cabinet.
  • Serve as a collegial and collaborative member of the team, always participating in respectful and generative critique for the betterment of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A master’s degree in education, social sciences, or a related field. 
  • Experience in quantitative research (qualitative and mixed methods a plus), with particular expertise in survey design, administration, and analysis. 
  • Strong scholarly and technical writing skills, as well as the ability to communicate across contexts (including proposals, presentations, and reports).
  • Proficient experience with the development of collaborative research-based projects, clearly demonstrating effective project management and collaboration strategies.
  • Proven success in researching and bringing forward ideas and recommendations that expand and diversify research and innovation within an organization. 
  • A strong ability to work under pressure, prioritizing work, meeting deadlines and producing quality results on time with attention to detail.
  • Exemplary collaborative skills with a strong desire to foster and grow interpersonal connections within and outside the organization. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or equivalent terminal degree with research, publication, or professional experience in digital research, teaching, and learning.
  • Experience leading or collaborating on research initiatives of an educational association or institution.
  • Experience with digital curriculum and course design, development, evaluation and research.
  • Experience as an online instructor, trainer or administrator in higher education or K12 education.
  • Experience writing and reviewing grants, external proposals, scholarly publications and commissioned reports.
  • Familiarity or experience with the goals and mission of the Online Learning Consortium.
