Job Summary

Johnson County Community College is searching to fill a full-time faculty position in English (with emphases listed below). JCCC is in Overland Park, KS, the second largest city in the state of Kansas and part of the greater Kansas City Metro. JCCC is dedicated to maintaining a rich cultural community, with an award-winning contemporary art museum and center for the performing arts located on campus. JCCC is looking for a diverse pool of applicants for this full-time faculty position in the English department. Full-time faculty in English work to strike a balance between teaching and research and have strong professional connections with regional and national composition and literature professional organizations. Many of our 18,000 students are nontraditional, military veterans, immigrants, international, and first-generation college students. African American, Asian American, and Hispanic student populations are also growing. The successful applicant for this job will teach the equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester in literature and college composition. The successful candidate will perform other duties expected of full-time faculty, including maintaining scheduled office hours, developing and revising curriculum, developing and implementing course and program assessment of student learning outcomes, participating in department, division, and college meetings, serving on committees, and other duties as assigned. Teaching assignments could be any combination of online, hybrid and face-to-face (day or evening), and are subject to change as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree with at least 18 hours in literature or composition/rhetoric
Experience teaching children’s literature
Demonstrated strong teaching ability
Knowledge of and commitment to the teaching mission of a comprehensive community college
Demonstrated consistent record of collegiality and an ability to collaborate with faculty and people from the community

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree and/or Ph.D. in English Literature with emphasis in children’s literature
Background and/or experience teaching college-level African American literature
Experience teaching college level children’s literature and composition
Experience with teaching elementary school Language Arts
