The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has an opening for an Academic Advisor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese in the School of Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics. The Academic Advisor provides comprehensive support for undergraduate students in order to guide them toward informed and reasonable decisions about their academic and professional goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Advising: Advise undergraduate students about program requirements and opportunities, course selection and plans after graduation. Provide comprehensive support for meeting academic and professional goals in order to support on-time degree completion. Maintain undergraduate records and files. Perform other assigned duties relevant to undergraduate advising and education, including the study abroad and honors programs.
Recruitment: Create and implement recruitment materials, activities, and events (including planning and oversight of events, creating and disseminating written materials, developing and updating the departmental advising webpage, and maintaining a broad social media campaign). Participate in recruitment of majors and minors at the College and Campus levels. Engage with local high schools and participate in admitted students and other recruitment events.
Service: Represent the Department on appropriate departmental and campus committees related to student advising.
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Spanish or related discipline. Minimum of 1 year of advising experience in a higher education setting, preferably at a large public university.
Preferred: Master's degree in Spanish or related discipline a plus. 2 years of advising experience.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty, staff and students from diverse backgrounds. Strong dedication to student success. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent time management and organizational skills. Ability to update web content and knowledge of social media platforms. Ability to design flyers and posters using relevant platforms.
SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
This is a full-time academic professional position appointed on a 12 month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
