The College of Sciences at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, an R2 Carnegie Classification Hispanic-Serving Institution with an enrollment of over 32,000 students, invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor. This position will be jointly appointed in the Biology and Chemistry Departments with an expected start date of September 1, 2021.  Expertise is preferred in the area of Computational Biology, which may include basic research in systems biology, metabolomics, computational neuroscience, bioinformatics, etc. The UTRGV Departments of Chemistry and Biology are committed to cultivating a culture of inclusion and diversity, and especially welcome applications from candidates who can contribute to the diversity of the departments. The Assistant Professor will have the opportunity to participate in a premiere interdisciplinary program in the Rio Grande Valley, with a world-class reputation earned by delivering an outstanding education and cutting-edge research training to students.

The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or a related field, postdoctoral experience, and an excellent track record in research that indicates a strong potential for attracting extramural funding.  The new faculty member will teach a core course for the new Biochemistry and Molecular Biology MS Program, in addition to other courses in the Biology and Chemistry Departments, actively participate in externally-funded research and contribute to service activities. The candidate is expected to demonstrate a strong potential for forming interdisciplinary collaborations, the ability to involve both undergraduate and graduate students in research activities, and a commitment to educate a diverse body of students in a Hispanic Serving Institution.  As a member of the UT system, faculty have access to the Texas Advanced Computing Center (https://www.tacc.utexas.edu/).  UTRGV campuses are distributed between Edinburg, Harlingen and Brownsville, Texas.
