Job Description Summary:

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Clarkson University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of Geotechnical Engineering with an expected starting date of July of 2021. This position is expected to be filled at the assistant professor level. Candidates with exceptional records may also be considered at the associate or full professor levels. Successful candidates will demonstrate an interest in collaborative research that complements and augments existing expertise among the faculty in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department (http://www.clarkson.edu/cee).

Research areas of interest include but are not limited to: data science and deep learning; resilience of engineered systems; multi-hazard mitigation; renewable energy systems; soil-structure interaction; coastal protection; computational geomechanics; biogeotechnics; and earthquake engineering. Successful candidates are expected to sustain a vigorous, internationally visible, externally funded research program.

Clarkson University is strategically emphasizing four primary research focus areas: Data Analytics, Healthy World Solutions, Advanced Materials Development, and Emerging Interdisciplinary Research Solutions. These focus areas are supported by seven university wide research centers (CITeR, C3S2, ISE, CARES, CAMP, CfM, and CREST). Candidates whose research interests align with one or more of these focus areas are especially encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field is required of all applicants.

Successful candidates will also be committed to teaching at all levels, and specifically, be able to teach undergraduate courses in soil mechanics and foundation design.
