Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the University President. the vice president for university advancement serves as the chief advancement and development officer of the university. This position participates as a member of the President’s Cabinet in the overall management of the University. The vice president is responsible for providing leadership for the development, administration, and management of all functions and matters relating to the university’s comprehensive fund raising, alumni engagement, and government relations efforts . The vice president will be required to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description and as designated by the University President.

Responsibilities Providing leadership of the university’s comprehensive fund raising, alumni engagement, and government relations efforts through consultation with the University President, the vice president shall be responsible for generating private donations in support of the university’s operations, to include scholarship, academic, operational, and infrastructure needs.

The vice president will be responsible for the management and growth of the university foundation’s endowment, investment, unrestricted, and restricted funds; as the executive director of the university foundation.

The vice president will assist the President with community relations as needed.

The vice president will keep up to date on current fundraising, marketing and public relations programs, practices, and procedures being utilized by higher education institutions.

The vice president will develop and manage the university’s faculty and staff giving program. Additionally, the vice president will be responsible for the development and execution of annual fund drives, deferred gift planning, corporate giving, foundation giving.

The vice president will develop and manage a donor relations and stewardship program that achieves meaningful and reciprocal engagement between the university and its’ donors.

The vice president will promote a positive image and positive external relations for the University by communicating and interacting with city, state, and other officials in matters related to University Advancement, and representing the President and the University in various community, state and regional activities designed to promote Savannah State University in particular and higher education in general.

The vice president shall develop, policies and procedures for the Division of University Advancement and the Savannah State University Foundation.

The vice president will encourage high morale and the delivery of quality service by each employee within the Division of University Advancement through a leadership style that causes employees to strive enthusiastically toward the accomplishment of established goals and objectives.

The vice president will be responsibility for special projects and other duties as directed by the University President.

Required Qualifications
    Masters degree requiredThree to five years of management with knowledge of business development, campaign management, annual giving programs, corporate foundation relations, prospect management, alumni affairsExperience in volunteer management and in soliciting giftsInterpersonal communications and team building skillsExcellent writing skillsCommitment to values of higher educationSelf-motivated/goal oriented and ability to travel
