Required Education:PhD
Required Related Experience:Doctoral training in basic science studies of global and cellular metabolism or related disciplines. Mastery of basic science techniques such as qPCR, western blotting, cell culture, molecular cloning, and being comfortable with mouse work.
Required License/Registration/Certification:N/A
Physical Requirements:Standing or sitting up to 8 hours/day, lifting <30 lbs, may view computer up to 8 hours/day. Comfortable with human and/or animal sample exposure
Shift:Flexible, generally Monday-Friday 8-5, some weekend, evening or night duties depending on research projects
Job Summary:The Softic laboratory is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a position of Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Kentucky. Samir Softic, MD, recently moved from Harvard Medical School and is rapidly growing his basic science laboratory in order to expand the studies investigating how combined intake of sugar (fructose and glucose) and high-fat diet drive development of obesity, insulin resistance and fatty liver disease.
The successful candidate will have relentless work attitude, intellectual curiosity, utmost drive to seek scientific truth and protect research integrity. She or he will be in charge of leading an independent project, collegially participate in ongoing experiments in the lab, assist in training of students and other lab personal, and have the ability to practice exemplary leadership skills. Furthermore, a post-doc is expected to write peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts for high-impact journals, participate in grant writing and disseminate research results at local and national meetings.
Experience with in vivo and in vitro studies assessing various aspects of metabolism. Expertise with assessing mitochondrial function is desired. Prior exposure to analyzing/interpreting large data sets such as RNAseq, metabolomics or proteomics is a plus.
