Position Highlights:

The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Arizona is accepting applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant (tenure track) Professor in the College of Medicine. We seek investigators with interest in studies substance use disorder using preclinical models. The department seeks applicants with an interest in studying the mechanisms in substance (i.e. opioid) addiction that can work with a group of faculty studying chronic pain that entail the discovery of novel analgesics that reduce opioid rewarding activity. The Department has a strong internationally recognized program dedicated to the study of various forms of pain including cancer, skeletal, neuropathic, headache, and inflammation-induced pain, as well as the molecular and cellular changes in the blood brain barrier.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Applicants should have a strong interest in understanding the neurobiology of addiction of the brain. It is expected that the successful candidate will establish collaborative project with current faculty.

The department is seeking an individual who is able to work with diverse students, trainees and colleagues, and who has experience with a variety of teaching methods and curricular perspectives.

The expertise of the current faculty members encompasses a spectrum of molecular neurobiological, cardiovascular, and neuropharamcological techniques allowing for vibrant collaborative efforts designed to address the question of the underlying causes of chronic pain.   • Seek extramural funding for research by developing and submitting research grant proposals to appropriate funding agencies; as Principal Investigator, partner with faculty to form research teams, develop research plans, write funding proposals, and implement and dissemination of results through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and invited lectures.
  • Develop independent research programs and contribute to graduate (PhD) and medical (MD) education.
  • Engage in teaching activities for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Participate on appropriate departmental and/or College of Medicine committees, and professional organization committees as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD and/or MD degree.
  • At least 3 years of postdoctoral training.
  • Established record of productivity and innovation.
  • Established or strong potential to establish and independent lab and extramurally funded research program.

Preferred Qualifications:

*Creative thinking skills and command of the neuroscience literature. *Experience performing experimental animal research. *Ability to work collaboratively with excellent communication skills. *Established expertise working with diverse communities.
