Advertised Job Summary:

The Artificial Intelligence Institute (AI) within the College of Engineering and Computing seeks to fill the position of Post-Doctoral Fellow to perform research in advanced analysis of sensor data using deep learning methods and synthetic control; develop new strategies for improving learning techniques using Knowledge Graphs; explain insights using Natural Language Processing (NLP); assist faculty in the tasks of mentoring junior research students, writing publications, giving technical presentations and managing grants.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions):

PhD in Computer Science or Computer Science & Engineering must be earned by start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrable knowledge of preferably three (3) or more subjects of relevance to activities at AI Institute at UofSC with the emphasis on Machine Learning including Deep Learning and Natural Language Processing Vision. Experience in (preferably demonstrated through publications in top AI conferences and journals): Machine/Deep Learning algorithms, Sensor Data management, Explanation methods and NLP techniques. Experience and/or interest in applying research to smart city (water, traffic), medical (individual, public health) and/or education domains. Experience of effectively using GPU and/or cloud computing environments involving multimodal big data.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Demonstrated success in high-quality publications in the field of candidate’s expertise. Demonstrable knowledge of at least two (2)subjects of relevance to activities with emphasis on Machine Learning, including Deep Learning and Natural Language Processing Vision.
The candidate should have high interest in being trained for a future academic career and should have experience with literature review, experimental research, evaluation, data collection, and analysis with scientific thinking. The candidate should have strong technical writing skills as evidenced by publishing in top venues in the candidate’s main research area.
Strong programming and systems experience need, including (a) competency in one key language, preferably Python, (b) deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.), and © data management methods for handling large data.
