University Health Services (UHS) at Princeton University is a fully accredited (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, or “AAAHC”) health care facility. Located in the McCosh Health Center, the Caldwell Field House and Dillon Gym, UHS provides comprehensive health services to more than 7,500 Princeton undergraduate and graduate students, and specialized services to Princeton University faculty, staff, and employees who experience work-related injuries and illnesses, or who require consultations regarding international and travel medicine.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Sexual Health and Wellness service (SHAW) provides counseling, education, evaluation and treatment of issues related to sexual and reproductive health and gynecological concerns. The leader of the Sexual Health and Wellness service provides administrative oversight for this program as well as providing a significant portion of patient care in SHAW.

Responsibilities
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical Care (80%)

SHAW-specific clinical duties and responsibilities include:

• Performance of annual gynecologic/well-women's exams
• and experience in pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and gender-affirming care (GAC).
• Problem-based care, including but not limited to assessment and management of:
Vaginal complaints Breast problems Urinary Tract Infections Menstrual irregularities and vaginal bleeding Hirsutism Abnormal pap smears Chronic pelvic pain Contraception management, including initiation and surveillance of contraceptive methods; management of contraceptive side effects; providing contraception to medically complex patients, either alone or in consultation with a physician when necessary Placement and management of contraceptive implants and intrauterine devices Diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STI's) Care following sexual assault including STI testing and treatment as well as post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) initiation and monitoring Diagnosis pregnancy and provides both pre-pregnancy counseling, pregnancy options counseling and early pregnancy-related care.

Takes health history and performs physical examination and annual sexual health exam as indicated by the chief complaint and follows national guidelines for screening exams. Diagnosis and treats common gynecological problems and sexual health problems. Provides continuity and coordination of healthcare services. Identifies and coordinates care for complex general and gynecological health problems with other expert providers both within and outside PUHS. Orders and interprets diagnostic tests. Assesses psychosocial emotional, spiritual, environmental, biological, behavioral, and cultural factors impacting client. Identifies, manages, and monitors uncomplicated common general medical (non-sexual/reproductive) health problems both acute and chronic, within approved guidelines. Teaches, counsels and assists clients and their significant others to assume responsibility for the prevention of illness, and the promotion, maintenance and restoration of health, in general, and SHAW, specifically. Prescribes modalities to promote wellness and management of illness, including but not limited to medication, nutrition, and exercise. Prescribing medications and immunizations is done within the guidelines of the Nurse Practitioner's prescriptive authority of The New Jersey Board of Nursing. Works collaboratively with physicians, Nurse Practitioner, physician assistants and other disciplines in delivery of care, consulting and making referrals as needed. Apply evidence-based decision-making when assessing and treating patients Documents all patient encounters in the electronic medical record using Medicat. Oversees in-house HIV testing. Assists RN in abnormal Pap follow-up. Ensures patient confidentiality. Work hours may require flexibility depending on operational need. Participates in the after hour (overnight and weekend) on-call rotation that is shared among providers.

Administrative Management (15%)

Develops guidelines for abnormal Pap follow-up and STI testing following national guidelines. Tracks statistics for campus trends. Coordinates Sexual Health and Wellness care with other services in UHS. Oversees SHAW preparation for AAAHC accreditation. Complies with State guidelines for reporting STIs and provides copies of positive results to the state. Ensures that patient care is done efficiently and in a safe environment. Participates in UHS committees. Participates in regular staff meetings.

Leadership (5%)

Develops, reviews, and revises patient care policies and procedures for SHAW. Acts as a resource and consultant for colleagues who provide sexual health and reproductive care. Provides feedback to colleagues regarding care and skill competency when appropriate; this feedback may be referenced in annual performance appraisals. Assists in interviewing and hiring of medical and other professional staff. Participates in quality assurance activities. Keeps other UHS staff informed about SHAW activities through oral and written reports. Ensures staff participation in SHAW-specific skills development programs. Maintains awareness of the latest developments in SHAW so that these can be incorporated, where appropriate, into our program. Serves as a resource to other UHS staff on issues related to women's and men's sexual health. Serves as a resource to the University regarding issues related to sexual health and wellness, including SHARE, Peer Educators, Resident Advisors, LGBT Center and others. This includes, at times, speaking opportunities to student groups or collaborating with students in the implementation of outreach activities.

Provides the number of SHAW inventory items to financial managers for the purpose of budget forecasting on an annual basis.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

New Jersey state certification as a Nurse Practitioner. New Jersey Licensure as a registered professional Nurse. ANA (or equivalent national certification) as a Nurse Practitioner. CPR/AED certification. Completion of a Master's program in nursing with a specialization as Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, or Adult Nurse Practitioner. Minimum of two-four years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner at least two of which shall have included the provision of women's health care. Excellent physical assessment skills. Willingness to work in collaboration with the gynecologic consulting physicians. Be flexible, have a positive attitude, and be interested in empowering men and women regarding self-care. Excellent computer skills, ability to learn the PUHS-specific program, Medicat, and use EMR effectively. Excellent technical skills including but not limited to: insertion and removal of long-acting reversible contraceptive methods, including IUD's and implants. and experience in the management of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and gender-affirming care (GAC). If no extensive experience in these areas, must participate in training programs with the goal of becoming proficient in and delivering clinical services in these specialty areas.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Administrative experience. Experience in performing colposcopies and vulvar biopsies independently. Extensive experience in the provision of gender-affirming care. Experience in a college health setting.
