Position Summary:

The faculty will be responsible for student instruction, student advising, educational leadership, and mentoring in Physics. The focus of this position is in classroom and laboratory instruction.

Education:

*Earned Doctorate in Physics, Physics Education, or closely-related discipline. However, qualified candidates who have a Masters Degree in Physics will also be considered. A minimum of 18 graduate credits in Physics or Physics Education is required. (Minimum)

Experience:

*Two (2) years equivalent successful full-time College teaching experience in both lecture and laboratory classes, specifically College Physics (Algebra-based), General Physics (Calculus-based), Physics for Applied Technologies, Physics for Health Science, and/or Physics Survey at the undergraduate level, higher than Teaching Assistant or Lab Assistant. (Minimum)
*Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. (Minimum)
*Coursework in or experience integrating computer technology in the instructional process. (Minimum)
*Coursework in or experience teaching physics for the health sciences and applied technologies. (Desired)
*Experience with curriculum and course development. (Desired)
*Scholarship as evidenced by refereed publications. (Desired)

Responsibilities and Duties :

-Teach full load (15 credits/semester) of Physics lectures and laboratories. Specific courses may include but not be limited to: College Physics (Algebra-based); General Physics (Calculus-based); Physics for Applied Technologies; Physics for Health Science; and Physics Survey. (Essential)
-Advise, schedule, and maintain accurate records on students. (Essential)
-Write and update course syllabi. (Essential)
-Assist with curriculum review, revision, and development. (Essential)
-Engage in continuous professional development in discipline and in instructional methodology appropriate to field of study. (Essential)
-Maintain office hours according to contractual guidelines. (Essential)
-Participate in outcomes assessment and program review. (Essential)
-Contribute to the betterment of the College through School and department committee participation. (Essential)
-Contribute to the betterment of the College through College-wide committee participation. (Marginal)
-Assist other faculty in maintaining stockroom and in directing activities of the laboratory assistants. (Essential)
-Assume responsibility for laboratory safety, development, coordination, and maintenance. (Essential)

Pay Rate / Salary:

Commensurate with credentials submitted as applied to the College’s Faculty Salary System. As a point of reference, the salary range for new full-time faculty hired in various disciplines throughout the College for the 2020/21 academic year is $56,586 – $74,316.

Additional Information:

The wages, hours, and terms and conditions of employment for full-time teaching faculty, counselors and librarians (all regular College funded positions and certain grant/contract funded positions) are determined by the negotiated Agreement between Pennsylvania College of Technology and the Penn College Education Association.
