Scope of Job:
The Department of Information Systems in the Robert C. Vackar College of Business and Entrepreneurship at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley ((UTRGV) http://www.utrgv.edu/cobe) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Practice. We are a Hispanic-serving institution located in South Texas near the Mexico border near the famous and beautiful South Padre Island beaches. We seek dedicated and excellent candidates who are focused on improving student success, preparing exceptional business professionals, to continue a tradition of improving the social mobility of our students. Applicants must have substantial teaching experience in Information Systems courses (e.g. INFS, IS, CIS, MIS) or in Quantitative Measurement courses (e.g. QUMT, business statistics). Our courses are offered during the day and evenings in different modalities - face-to-face, hybrid, online synchronous and online asynchronous.
We invite applications for a position as either Applied or Academic Professor of Practice. The duties for an Applied professors of Practice position are teaching and service. The duties for an Academic Professor of Practice are teaching, service, and research. Applicants with a Ph.D. or DBA in Information Systems or Decision Sciences or their related fields who wish to stay active in research, including pedagogical research, may be considered for the position of Academic Professors of Practice.
The department contributes to the BBA in Information Systems major, the MBA program, the MS in Business Analytics, and the Ph.D. program. The College offers Ph.D. programs in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Management, and Marketing, and is in the process of developing a DBA program.


Minimum Qualifications:
Masters degree in a closely related field, from an accredited institution and a minimum of ten years of leadership level experience in the field. (Applied Professor of Practice)

We also invite applications from individuals with a Ph.D. or DBA from an accredited institution in Information Systems or Decision Science or a closely related field with prior teaching experience who wish to stay active in research. These candidates will be considered for the position of Academic Professor of Practice. Individuals with Ph.D.’s who have previously earned the rank of assistant or associate at comparable institutions may be considered for similar ranks as professors of practice.

• Substantial community involvement such as participation in a professional society and/or serving as a speaker for local or regional events
• Two years of college teaching experience. Ph.D. or DBA in Information Systems or Decision Sciences or closely related business field from comparable institutions (Academic Professor of Practice)
• Substantial professional career experience in Information Systems or Decision Sciences or closely related business field (Applied Professor of Practice)
• Passion to share work experience with our students and contribute to program development as they prepare for careers after graduation.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.

Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to
demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based
test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of
English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the

A New University with a Long History

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

 

Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

 

UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
