POSITION SUMMARY:

The Dissertation Coordinator directs the research leading up to the dissertation and the dissertation experience within the Ed.D. programs at American College of Education. This full-time position articulates the college vision and ensures the delivery of quality student experiences to enhance personal, professional, and scholarly skills. Through continued growth, monitoring and development of the dissertation and research experience within the Ed.D. program, the dissertation coordinator provides direction on how to complete the required activities while supporting a strong commitment to lifelong studies and online education. The dissertation coordinator carries out the duties assigned by the Director of Doctoral Research. They serve the college in two capacities, including teaching duties and leading administrative functions for doctoral programs.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Academic and Teaching

•Relates directly to students, handling instructional responsibilities to support, strengthen, and enhance the learning experience.

•Interacts directly with students in an appropriate, professional manner.

•Facilitates a safe and productive learning environment for students.

•Responds in a timely manner to student requests for information, clarification of content, posts, and personal queries, and contacts inactive students as the need arises.

•Oversees the quality of the course by reviewing the functionality and content, ensuring high quality delivery of content.

•Expands the student experience by “fingerprinting” the course content with unique personal experience, insights, or other professional knowledge.

•Monitors and provides appropriate student feedback on assignments within college policies.

•Synthesizes and reports student performance data in a timeline manner.

Administrative Coordination

•Consults with faculty and students as it relates to concept papers, proposals, and dissertations.

•Coordinates with other departments communicating deadlines, processes, and other updates.

•Trains faculty in different phases of the research process from the concept paper stage to the final dissertation on how to best provide support for doctoral students.

•Assists in outreach with doctoral students, research faculty, and dissertation committees.

•Maintain tracking systems.

•Maintains and shares accurate information in Student Commons.

•Assists with editing and conducts final dissertation reviews.

•Improves the quality of research documents, ensuring original work and academic integrity.

•Assists with the program as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

•Earned terminal degree in a field associated with the department.

•3+ year experience in teaching and leadership in a formal educational setting using both traditional and non-traditional teaching formats, higher education strongly preferred.

•Demonstrated experience in successfully developing online/virtual professional relationships.

•1+ year experience as an online faculty member preferred.

•Evidence of professional research and/or creative endeavors and expertise in the field.

•Proven experience in higher education, remote leadership experience preferred.

•Capable of interpreting and writing an analysis of sophisticated educational research documents.

•Current knowledge of leadership principles and techniques.

•Ability to travel as required.

•Skill in using Microsoft Office Suite applications proficiently.

•Ability to use or learn how to use appropriate technology, include conferencing and learning management systems.
