Job Details

Nazareth College of Rochester, NY invites applications for a full-time, tenure track or professional practice faculty member, rank open, to serve as the program director and lead a thriving undergraduate program in Musical Theatre, position starting August 2021. The department seeks candidates committed to teaching excellence at a comprehensive institution that supports both liberal arts curricula and professional programs. Applicants who will contribute to the college’s commitment to a diverse and inclusive environment are encouraged to apply.

Rank will be determined based on the level of education and teaching/professional experience. Candidates should have a record of professional directing and performing experience in musical theatre as well as extensive knowledge of musical theatre repertory and the professional theatre world. Candidates should also demonstrate successful experience in directing musicals and teaching musical theatre performance related courses.

We will give preference to applicants with a terminal degree, with a specialization in Musical Theatre, Theatre Arts, or Dance, and experience teaching in a higher education institution. We will consider applicants with at least a bachelors degree and extensive professional directing and performance experience, who have also taught in a college setting.

Primary responsibilities will include leadership and management of the musical theatre program, recruitment of high-quality students locally and regionally, directing productions in the department season, teaching musical theatre performance, history and repertory, student showcases, and audition coaching. In addition, the successful candidate should maintain connections with industry professionals, continuing a successful directing and performing career on and off campus, and exhibiting a collegial spirit in collaborating with music, dance and theatre faculty to produce inter-departmental productions that advance the mission of the college. A commitment to teaching in a liberal arts environment is essential. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to the College mission, of teaching the whole student, by integrating performance skills with a liberal arts grounding.

Nazareth College is an equal opportunity employer (EOE) and is committed to diversity in all areas of the campus community. Candidates from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
