 OCD Therapist

The University of Colorado School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry has just welcomed their new Department Chair, C. Neill Epperson, MD and is in the process of growing the Department of Psychiatry with new programs and expanding existing programs.

Position Summary:

The OCD therapist at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Student Mental Health will join the CU Medicine Department of Psychiatry Faculty Practice.  The therapist will work with Rachel Davis, MD to expand the existing OCD Clinic.  The primary responsibility of this clinician is to provider individual and group therapy (primarily cognitive behavioral therapy with exposure and response prevention – CBT/ERP) for patients with obsessive-compulsive and related disorders.  Additional responsibilities may include working with Dr. Davis to provide case management and coordination of care for patients seeking and receiving Deep Brain Stimulation for treatment-refractory OCD, development of an intensive outpatient program, program development, teaching, and community outreach.  SRMH is a clinical service in operation since 2008 and provides and coordinates mental health and wellness services to approximately 4300 health professional students and more than 1000 CU GME and Denver Health residents and fellows. This clinician will practice in the Fitzsimmons Building on the CU Anschutz campus.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Conduct intake assessments and determine an appropriate plan of care.
  • Provide individual CBT/ERP.
  • Provide group therapy.
  • Very insurance benefits prior to providing treatment.
  • Assist with coordination of care and admission to a higher level of care as needed.
  • Collaborate with other mental health faculty and staff in the provision of treatment
  • Request and review records for patients seeking evaluation for Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for OCD
  • Identify appropriate candidates for DBS for OCD based on inclusion and exclusion criteria.
  • Coordinate with family members and treatment team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be knowledgeable about CBT/ERP for the treatment of OCD and related disorders.
  • Ability to develop and work within an exposure hierarchy.
  • Able to recognize cognitive distortions commonly occurring in patients with OCD and related disorders.
  • Familiar with using imaginal and in vivo exposures safely and creatively.
  • Awareness of appropriate boundaries within the context of CBT/ERP – where treatment may occur outside the office setting.
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to cultural diversity.
  • Must have skills in risk assessment including suicide and violence risk assessment.
  • Must be comfortable providing case management and coordination of care.
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Experience leading group therapy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to learn and use an EMR.
  • Self-directed and flexible
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with all constituencies in the Department of Psychiatry including Departmental Chair, Program Directors, and administrative staff. When working with referrals from SRMH
  • Must develop knowledge about health professional schools on the Anschutz Medical Campus.
  • Must be able to work closely and collaboratively with students and faculty.
  • Self-directed and flexible.
  • Salary and Benefits:

    Instructor/Senior Instructor (LPC or LCSW): The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $58,000 to $80,000.

    This represents the 25-50 percentile of the salary range which is reflective of a candidate with 1-7 years of experience. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

     

    The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.     Qualifications
    . Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in social work or counseling and must be eligible for a Colorado License – LCSW or LPC/LAC
    • Experience and comfortable working with patient with comorbid conditions including addictions and eating disorders 
    Instructor: 1-3 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.  Minimum degree qualifications: MSW and eligible for Colorado License, LCSW, or LPC/LAC

    Senior Instructor: 1-3 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.  Minimum degree qualifications: MSW and eligible for Colorado License, LCSW, or LPC/LAC

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 1- year experience in treating OCD and related disorders 
    • The therapist should be comfortable working with patients with severe and sometimes treatment-refractory illness.
    • The OCD therapist should be adept at working collaboratively within a team. 
    • In addition, leadership skills, experience in program development, and excellent interpersonal skills are important.
