Assembles and analyzes data and transactions, prepares statements and reports relating to an assigned area of responsibility. Prepares reports such as balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other documents that project the organization's financial position. Readies and maintains financial and business transactions, applying accounting principles that include work that is analytical, evaluative, and advisory in nature and that requires an understanding of both accounting theory and practice. Oversees accounting operations, or a complex segment of the accounting function. Coordinates accounting matters with other departments. Performs work under general supervision. Handles moderately complex issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. May provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group. Utilizes knowledge of the fundamental doctrines, theories, principles, and terminology of accountancy, and often entails some understanding of such related fields as business law, statistics, and general management. Analyzes the effects of transactions upon account relationships, evaluates alternative means of treating transactions, and plans the manner in which account structures should be developed or modified. Ensures the adequacy of the accounting system as the basis for reporting to management, considers the need for new or changed controls, and interprets the meaning of accounting records, reports, and statements. Performs work under minimal supervision. Handles complex issues and problems. Possesses solid working knowledge of subject matter. Typically exempt and may act as a lead or first-level supervisor to other staff (may also supervise students). Typically reports to a department head. Department Specific Essential Job Functions:Responsible for financial analysis and reporting, account reconciliations, fixed asset maintenance, chart of account maintenance, monthly bond payments, audit schedules, unrelated business income tax reporting and 990T reporting. Job Level:Scope & Impact: This position is an intermediate-level independent contributor whose actions may have a significant impact on a department's operations. This position may also affect operations of multiple work areas.Communication & Interaction: Interacts with various levels within or outside the University to provide service, interpret and explain ideas and concepts, as well as resolve issues.Effective Knowledge: Demonstrates functional expertise in a particular domain. Demonstrates ability to operate independently and without supervision for day to day operations.Problem Solving & Judgement: Maintains a working knowledge of policies and procedures, generally accepted principles, and methods. Resolves day to day operational issues by collecting and interpreting information. Solutions may include modifying procedures and methods to address new conditions and may incorporate advice and input as needed from supervisor. This role includes broad responsibilities requiring the application of policies to dynamic and complex conditions. Problems generally require significant analysis and judgment. Solutions may include adapting existing policies and systems to address unique situations.Budget Authority: May provide input into budget development by identifying operational needs and requirements. May assist with research, requirements gathering or other related efforts to develop budgetary requirements.Policy & Procedure Authority: Primarily responsible for applying organizational policies and procedures and/or determining appropriate process to follow.Reporting Relationships: Generally reports to manager or higher but may receive basic operational direction and guidance from senior level staff members.Supervisory & Team Leadership Responsibilities: May provide functional subject matter expertiseQualifications Qualifications Required: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in job related field plus 3+ years of relevant experience in the chosen field or 7+ years of equivalent work experience that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results. Qualifications Preferred: Audit experience and higher education experience preferred. BA in accounting preferred plus 3 years work experience.
