The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Bioengineering at Valparaiso University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or Materials Engineering at the Assistant Professor level ( 

Valparaiso University (“Valpo”), a community of learning grounded in the Lutheran tradition of scholarship, freedom, and faith, prepares students to lead and serve both church and society. Located one hour southeast of Chicago on a 310-acre campus, Valpo is a comprehensive university with an enrollment of over 3,100 undergraduate and graduate students. Valpo is consistently recognized as one of the best private universities in the Midwest and is located in Valparaiso, Indiana, a county seat of 30,000 residents with high quality schools and an active social community. 

Valparaiso University’s undergraduate-only College of Engineering offers an ABET-accredited BS Mechanical Engineering degree and a new Bioengineering degree.  Our current mechanical engineering and bioengineering enrollment combined is approximately 220 students, and our goal is to increase our enrollment and recruit students from underrepresented groups.  The College of Engineering at Valpo is currently ranked tied for 13th in Engineering Programs (non-doctoral) in the 2020 U.S. News Rankings.

The successful candidate will be passionate about teaching engineering undergraduate students, developing courses and labs that enhance the mechanical engineering and/or bioengineering programs, and pursuing scholarly activities in their field.  They will also be able to interact and effectively communicate with students and faculty from diverse backgrounds. The successful candidate will teach required and elective courses in mechanical engineering and/or bioengineering, capstone design, and general engineering courses, plus be actively engaged in research and campus citizenship activities. Candidates should have an earned doctorate in mechanical engineering, bioengineering/biomedical engineering, or materials engineering.
