Job Description Summary:

Clarkson University’s David D. Reh School of Business invites applications for an Instructor/Assistant Professor in the area of Business Law and Ethics to begin on or around August 1, 2021. With this position, we seek to attract faculty candidates with solid training in business law and ethics (focus areas can include labor and employment law, intellectual property law, corporate law, etc). This is a non-tenure rank, full time faculty position, renewable every three years after a comprehensive performance review. Job responsibilities include teaching courses in undergraduate, graduate and professional programs, using multiple delivery formats (including in-person, remote/online and synchronous and asynchronous formats). The selected candidate is expected to contribute toward advancing Reh School’s mission and vision through teaching, scholarship and engagement. With respect to teaching, the selected candidate will teach four courses per semester in law-related areas, including law and society, labor law, business/corporate law, and other related courses. He or she is also expected to produce impactful scholarship that advances the teaching and practice of business law and related fields. Finally, with respect to engagement, the candidate is expected to actively participate in the School’s (and University’s) shared-governance, by serving on relevant faculty committees, advising students in the pre-law program, and be part of our collegial environment. In addition to having the relevant academic credentials and experience, the selected candidate will demonstrate sustained engagement activities necessary for maintaining faculty qualifications, consistent with our AACSB accreditation standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants for the position must hold a Juris Doctor (JD) degree (or equivalent) in a related legal field by the time of the appointment. Seeking membership in, and licensure by professional organization (e.g., New York Bar Association), and intellectual currency through relevant faculty and professional development activities are strongly encouraged and supported.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred applicants will have a documented record of law practice or related experience working in industry, and strong record of teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in business law and related courses and curriculum innovations. Candidates with a record of publishing high-quality scholarship (especially scholarship that advances teaching and pedagogy in business law and ethics) will also be given strong consideration. The candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a diverse student population through inclusive course materials and teaching strategies, and they are expected to support the drive to become an anti-racist institution.
