Job Description
The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), School of Nursing, Office of Learning Technology is seeking an Instructional Technology Specialist to assist faculty and students in the use of technology in learning applications and equipment using a wide variety of available technologies such as; digital images/audio, PowerPoint and other PC presentation software, enterprise learning applications, and distance learning (DL) technologies, assessment software and web conferencing.  Accountability | Civility | Collaboration | Diversity | Excellence | Knowledge | Leadership At the University of Maryland, Baltimore, we are driven by our seven core values, philosophy, and daily business and education practices of our University.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide daily support and advice to faculty, staff and students in effectively using and developing instructional technology applications and/or equipment.
  • Manage the Blackboard course sites for both web based and face to face courses.
  • Monitor and triage the Learning Technology support portals.
  • Monitor use, train and secure audio/visual, multimedia, video production, and IT equipment as appropriate.
  • Create and collaborate on training plans and blended learning implementation strategies and in the design and customization of curriculum and provide consultation on course media use.
  • Researches and implements new technologies and best practices to educate faculty and make recommendations for future use.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in field and/or related field.  Master’s degree and/or additional certification is preferred and can be used to substitute for relevant experience. Experience: Two (2) years related experience which includes proficiency with audio/visual, multimedia, video production, or IT resources. OR   

 

Equivalent of six (6) years combination of business audio/visual, multimedia, video production, or IT education/training or instructional design experience preferred.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Understanding of instructional design and curricular development issues related to teaching and learning in traditional, hybrid, and distance courses, as well as experience using a wide range of hardware, software, and database tools to develop instructional materials.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of education program planning and development.  Proficiency designing and producing multimedia objects and learning artifacts.  Knowledge of Blackboard Learning Management System, MS Office, HTML, Adobe Suite, Mediasite, and other related software is required.
  • Efficient in time management and task completion.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts.  Writes and presents information in a clear and concise way.  Interprets and understand written information and is able to listen attentively to verbal and non-verbal cues that lead to a deeper understanding.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and demonstrates professional ethical respectful, and courteous behavior when interacting with others.  Interacts pleasantly and positively with others to meet customer expectations, and provide follow up.
