The Department of Diagnostic Radiology & Nuclear Medicine, in conjunction with the University of Maryland Marlene & Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC) at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting for an outstanding M.D. or M.D/Ph.D. cancer imaging specialist (Associate to Full Professor level) who has an active federally-funded research program to head the UMGCCC Cancer Imaging Program.  Primary appointment will be within the Department of Diagnostic Radiology & Nuclear Medicine. 

This Cancer Imaging Program is a newly formed developing program that will complement five other well-established programs offered under the UMGCCC.  The successful candidate is expected to have a productive and funded research program focused on cancer imaging.  Upon hire, in addition to establishing their own research program, the candidate is expected to participate in and initiate imaging related clinical trials, collaborate with researchers within the imaging program and other active programs within the UMGCCC, mentor students, post-doctoral associates and/or physician scientists, present their work at national meetings, and publish in high-impact journals.  The appointee will provide leadership to the Cancer Imaging Program and create an environment that fosters collaborations between investigators from various cancer research programs and fosters translational clinical research.  The incumbent candidate along with his/her co-leader from basic sciences will work closely with the Director and the Associate Director of UMGCCC to formulate organizational structure of the Cancer Imaging Program. The position will also have some clinical and teaching responsibilities and the successful candidate will need an unwavering commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and education. ABR certification and the ability to obtain Maryland state license are required. Competitive start-up and salary package will be provided and will be commensurate with experience.

The successful candidate will join a rapidly growing research program within the Department of Diagnostic Radiology & Nuclear Medicine in various areas.  These include molecular imaging, hyperpolarized MR imaging, MR guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS), interventional imaging and development of quantitative imaging markers.  Clinical research is a main focus of the department with active research in all divisions within radiology using state of the art imaging technologies.  Recently the department became the Focused Ultrasound Foundation Center of Excellence based on significant contributions made towards translating MRgFUS to treat essential tremors, Parkinson’s disease, neuropathic pain and very recently were successful in creating blood brain barrier disruption for delivering nanoparticles. The clinical radiology program, particularly the neuro, chest, body and musculoskeletal programs provides strong support for all clinical research initiated within UMGCCC.
