The Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Scholarship, Office of Research Administration (ORA) has a job opportunity for a Contracts & Grants Analyst at the Coral Gables campus.

CORE JOB SUMMARY

The Contracts and Grants Analyst works independently to review sponsored clinical research contracts, proposals and budgets, and negotiate budgets and financial terms in adherence to sponsoring entity and University of Miami requirements. Under general supervision, the Contracts and Grants Analyst is responsible for providing institutional-level sponsored research administration services to a portfolio of academic departments and research units among all University campuses, including communicating with extramural entities, with the focus on clinical research and clinical trials.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONSUMMARY

  • Reviews, analyzes, negotiates and endorses financial provisions of complex clinical research contracts, proposals and awards to ensure use of the correct processes, and funding requirements.
  • Conducts comprehensive analysis and negotiates all applicable complex research contract and grant budgets from all sponsor types focusing on University policies, Uniform Guidance and federal and state regulations.
  • Prepares Medicare Coverage Analyses (MCAs) for all applicable studies that are compliant, consistent with University policies and state and federal regulations, protect University resources and foster fiscally sound budgets.
  • Collaborates with other University groups such as Principal Investigators and study teams, Compliance, IRB (Human Subject Research Office), Risk Management and other relevant offices to ensure that sponsored research projects are managed in a compliant, efficient and effective manner consistent with UM policies and procedures, applicable extramural entities guidelines, laws and regulations.
  • Provides advice to faculty and staff regarding sponsored research administration issues and interprets a broad range of sponsor policies, government regulations, and terms and conditions.
  • Provides data to departmental administration on an ongoing basis.
  • Collaborates with others within Office of Research Administration (ORA) to ensure consistent, smooth and efficient processes for pre and post-award activities related to research projects carried out by the University.
  • Keep current on relevant professional information by attending professional development opportunities and trainings.
  • Assists Director and departmental administration, as needed.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in Research, department research support, healthcare revenue cycle, sponsor/CRO; ideally in an academic setting. Any appropriate combination of relevant education and/or experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, Federal, State, Medicare and other applicable government regulations pertaining to research and investigational drug/device development process preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment and professionalism.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated professional experience and judgment to effectively serve faculty and sponsors while protecting, representing and advancing the University's best interests.
  • Ability to work well under deadline pressures without sacrificing accuracy, customer service, collegiality or ethics.
  • Strong analytic and information research skills.
