Job Description:

The School of the Arts is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to join the faculty of our growing Theatre program in Fall 2021 as a 10-month, full-time, annually renewable position.

We seek an accomplished stage performer and scholar in Theatre with a specialization in Acting. The preferred candidate's philosophy and approach would primarily reflect Stanislavski, Hagen and Meisner-based actor training, while candidates whose approaches also include other traditions or methods are encouraged to apply. The desired candidate will include experiential learning and active engagement in their classroom and will help to equip students seeking careers in stage performance and related fields with key professional skills.

Potential course assignments for the final candidate will include an array of acting classes such as Basic Performance, Scene Study, Acting Shakespeare and the Classics, Period Drama, and Acting for the Camera as well as voice production classes such as Voice and Articulation and Voice and Movement for the Stage.

Job Duties

• Teach 5 courses per semester (Note: there is no faculty advising load. Students are served by a professional advising staff.);
• Hold office hours as required and meet with students by appointment;
• Coach and mentor students regarding academic and career goals including graduate school preparation;
• Direct one stage production per academic year;
• Participate in committees as assigned, attend school and program meeting;
• Participate in recruitment activities and student orientations;
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Master's degree with related experience in Theatre or Acting and/or prominent professional credits, including excellence in teaching Acting at the college level or in a conservatory setting;
• A substantial and sustained body of theatre practice and production credits, in addition to strong evidence of contemporary stage directing and pedagogical practices in a variety of dramatic genres and a working knowledge of the dramatic literature of Latinx, Indigenous, Asian American or African American theatre;
• One additional area of specialization, e.g. acting for the screen, dramaturgy, global theatre history and theory, Shakespeare and period theatre, theatre education, production design, stage combat, dramatic structure and playwriting, or another area of specialization brought by the candidate; A commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education;
• A commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds;
• Strong computer skills, the use of technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy, the ability to access the College's online resources, and a willingness to be responsive to students via digital tools, including our digital learning management system;
• The successful candidate will possess expertise in learner-centered teaching and will have the ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles and at varying stages of academic readiness;
• Experience with course management systems, digital technology, and classroom media.
