Job Details

The College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Northeastern University seeks nominations and applications for several tenured or tenure-track faculty positions in the humanities and humanistic study of race and social justice with an expected start date of Fall 2021.

Successful candidates will have a distinguished scholarly record and demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and leadership. We are seeking scholars who work in the areas of African American history, contemporary African American cultural, textual, and artistic production, and/or performance. The college has a strong commitment to the public and digital humanities. We have a particular interest in scholars whose work focuses on race in the United States. Faculty appointments will be made jointly between the Africana Studies Program—which has strengths in three key areas: gender, cultural studies & social justice; global medicine & health equity; and literature, media & technology—and with one or more of the member departments of the college, including the Departments of English, History, Sociology & Anthropology, or Philosophy and Religion. Cross-college appointments are possible with the College of Arts, Media, & Design (CAMD). Successful applicants may affiliate with one of our research centers dedicated to work at the nexus of race and social justice, including the Boston Area Research Initiative and the NULab for Texts, Maps, and Networks or the Institute on Race and Justice.

The position will support the University’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as well as the college’s mission of innovation in experiential and applied learning. Candidates should have demonstrated commitment to fostering diverse and inclusive environments as well as to promoting experiential learning, which are central to a Northeastern University education.
