Job Description

SUMMARY:

The Department of Art is seeking faculty for a Non Tenure, Professional Track position in Visual Communication. This position will begin August, 2021. Faculty at Texas A & M University-Commerce are required to work cooperatively with others and contribute service to their discipline, the university, and the community.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Visual Communication, with an emphasis in Time-based Media;
  • Prepare syllabi;
  • Update course materials;
  • Work with the Director to expand curriculum, particularly in the area of Time-based Media;
  • Deliver instruction, primarily at the University Centers-Dallas, but potentially including online and other university campuses. Instructional duties may include teaching during the day, in the evening, or on an occasional Saturday;
  • Participate in the graduate program, with possible teaching of courses and serving on MFA thesis committees, as necessary and assigned;
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to implement departmental programs;
  • Provide service to the department, college, university and public schools, and community, as appropriate;
  • Maintain knowledge and stay abreast of current trends in learning with research, best practices in teaching, and technological applications in the classroom, including online teaching;
  • Participate in recruitment activities for the program and Department; and
  • Other duties as assigned by the Department Head and/or Director of Visual Communication

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Terminal degree (MFA) expected; MA or BFA with significant professional experience may be considered.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: 18 graduate hours in field/subject area. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals. Good written and oral communication skills. Commitment to high quality teaching. Dedication to high standards and student success.
  • Ability to: Multi-task and work well as part of a team.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

  • University level teaching experience
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite software
  • Proficiency in wide variety of other design software platforms
