Nature of Work:

The Desk Assistant will provide exceptional customer service to residents, conference guests, and other College and community visitors. This responsibilities of this role also include completing administrative duties and responding to student issues. The Desk Assistant will be supervised by the Residence Hall Director.

The weekly schedule will be assigned by the supervisor in conjunction with the student’s class schedule. The work schedule is subject to change between semesters or as needed. Students are not to work during scheduled class time, even if class is cancelled or dismissed early.

Essential Duties:

Administrative Responsibilities
-Complete job tasks and assignments thoroughly, appropriately, and in a timely manner during your scheduled weekly hours
-Assist with resident check-ins/outs, key distribution and collection, mail, filing, and associated paperwork.
-Be consistently punctual and prepared for training sessions, staff meetings, and one-on-one meetings.
-Develop and employ appropriate time management and organizational skills.
-Check emails frequently and respond promptly (within 24-48 hours).
-Effectively use the housing information system (StarRez) to serve the students and hall staff.
-Post all approved information, announcements, and flyers. Remove materials on a timely basis.
-Work with the Residence Hall Director to develop a weekly schedule that does not conflict with class time, even if class is cancelled or dismissed early.
-Assume other responsibilities as designated by the Residence Hall Director.

-Be a valued member of the team by treating others with respect and working to uphold the mission, vision, and values of the College and Office of Residence Life and Housing.
-Establish and maintain working relationships with all members of the residential community, including maintenance staff.
-Maintain a high level of ethical standards and always display a positive attitude.
-Provide exceptional customer service throughout the position.
-Be a helpful resource to others.
-Contribute to the Residence Life and Housing team and share the workload.
-Communicate respectfully while sharing and receiving feedback.

Responding to Student Issues
-Maintain the safety and security of the residence hall and report concerns to the Residence Hall Director.
-Update the Residence Hall Director of any concerns and/or issues brought up while working in the shuttle and at the front desk in a timely, accurate, and professional manner. This includes, but is not limited to, suitemate conflict, challenging residents, inappropriate behavior, etc.
-Write information reports clearly.
-Hold students accountable to the Student Code of Conduct and the Residence Hall Handbook.
-Respond to and accurately document policy violations in a fair, professional, and consistent manner.
-Assist during emergency situations such as fire, medical emergency, severe weather, etc.
-Perform other duties as assigned.

-Act as a positive role model for the residents, the Office of Residence Life and Housing, and the College both on and off campus.
-Empower others to be responsible and engaged citizens in the community.
-Develop a strong sense of time management, including how to successfully integrate academic, professional, and social responsibilities.
-Know the residents and build rapport.
-Be approachable and accessible to residents.

Minimum Qualifications and Training:

-DAs may not hold another on campus job
-Must have and maintain cumulative 2.0 grade point average
-Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours.
-A criminal background check will be conducted
-On campus judicial history will be checked
-Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and will be subject to random drug testing
-Must successful pass a background check

-Experience living on campus.

-Ability to hold oneself accountable.
