Post-Doctoral Fellow

Overall Description of Responsibility or Nature of Work

This position reports directly to the Judith Blaine, MD, PhD, in the Division of Renal Diseases and Hypertension, and is responsible for  designing and conducting experiments, data analysis and preparation of manuscripts, posters and talks for research conducted in a laboratory studying podocyte cell biology and  glomerular disease.

Areas of Responsibility / Scope of Research

The Blaine lab studies podocyte cell biology, trafficking pathways and interactions between podocytes and the immune system. Research will be conducted in both in vitro and in vivo systems to examine podocyte response to and trafficking of serum proteins such as albumin and IgG as well as immune complexes. The ultimate goal of this research is to define molecular pathways involved in the podocyte response to and handling of serum proteins and immune complexes to allow for the creation of targeted therapies to treat immune mediated kidney diseases and prevent podocyte structural derangements, cell death and progression of glomerular disease.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $53,760 - $65,292, depending on corresponding NIH stipend level.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a PhD in the biological sciences or biochemistry.
  • Proven experience with and ability to perform Western blot analysis, qPCR, flow cytometry.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience and familiarity with cell culture, RNA-seq, ELISAs, plasmid generation, immunofluorescence and IHC techniques as well as working with in vivo mouse models. Additional experience in advanced imaging methods will be considered favorably as will experience with CRISPR-Cas9 techniques.
  •  Proven ability to work independently within a research lab
  • Demonstrated ability/proficiency/excellence with large data set analysis such as experience with RNA-seq data analysis.
  • Proven ability to independently design experiments, analyze data and write papers.
